Florent “Flo” Groberg was born outside of Paris, France, and emigrated to the U.S. as a child. He was leading a security detachment in Afghanistan when he tackled a suicide bomber to keep him away from fellow soldiers. Groberg was severely injured when the bomber’s vest detonated, but his quick actions saved many lives. He is the first foreign-born Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam War.
