The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is partnering with Uber and Lyft to offer transportation assistance to veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

To access the new rideshare program, veterans enrolled in the VHA Homeless Program can:

  1. Contact the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at (877) 4AID-VET (877-424-3838); or
  2. Visit the closest VA medical center.

Referrals are required, and VA providers coordinate the rides, which can bring veterans to and from their place of employment, health appointments, and home following their discharge from care.

The idea for the rideshare came from Charles Franklin, an Army veteran and innovation specialist for the VA New England Center of Innovation, the first-of-its-kind Veteran Integrated System Network Center for VA.
