Military pharmacies and TRICARE Pharmacy home delivery will remain the lowest cost pharmacy option for TRICARE beneficiaries when some TRICARE pharmacy copays change in 2016.

On Feb. 1, 2016, most copays for prescription drugs at-home delivery and retail network pharmacies will increase slightly.

The 2016 National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, requires TRICARE to change its prescription copays.

All drugs at military pharmacies, and generic drugs through home delivery, are still available at no cost to beneficiaries.

Copays for brand name drugs through home delivery increase from $16 to $20...

Last year, 2015, marked the 18th Annual Randy Oler Memorial Operation Toy Drop that began in 1998 with Staff Sgt. Randy Oler.

Oler, who was assigned to U.S. Army Civil Affairs & Psychological Operations (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C., joined with his friends in the Special Operations community to start the first Operation Toy Drop.

"Operation Toy Drop is a multifaceted training exercise, which also has an important community relations aspect to it," said Maj. Andre A. Battiste, G-1, officer in charge, for Operation Toy Drop.

The Army established the Soldier for Life program in July 2012 to maintain trust with our Army family during and after service.

Being a U.S. Army Reserve soldier can be financially, emotionally and logistically challenging for both the citizen-soldier and his or her family.

More than 254,000 family members are significantly impacted by a loved one’s decision to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve. Each family situation is unique – and so are the issues with which they contend.

That’s where the Army Reserve Family Programs’ (ARFP) Fort Family comes in.

Fort Family is the rallying point for Army Reserve Family Programs because it addresses any and every family question or need on a 24/7/365 basis.

"The Army Reserve is a family,"...

Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) officials have announced, effective immediately, Association dues for both new and renewing members have been reduced for 2016.

"This is the lowest rate for new and renewing individual members in our history, and it makes it easier to become a part of the Army’s professional Association.

"In today’s tight economy, your buying power just went up." officials said.

Adding, "Our goal is to attract and retain many more individual members to ensure that our Association remains a strong, well-respected professional organization that continues to tell ‘The Army Story,’...

The busy season on Capitol Hill is here, and your Government Affairs team is leaning forward in the saddle.

The new Speaker of the House, Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., has vowed to move spending bills through the House of Representatives on an earlier schedule than has been the norm over the last decade.

He has also reached out to Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., with hopes that Democrats won’t block spending bills from reaching the Senate floor for action.

While this is encouraging, we will watch whether actions follow words in this presidential election year.

February and beyond

The first two...

The Army has gotten smaller every year since 2011, while the threats have gotten greater.

Simply put, America’s Army – our nation’s foundational force since 1775 – is asked to face a dangerous and uncertain world with reduced and uncertain resources.

It is confronted by turmoil abroad and hindered at home by politicians unable or unwilling to agree on core American needs.

The lone bit of budgetary stability in 2015 was a two-year reprieve from having sequestration hanging over our military.

This is hardly a beaming beacon of success for a government that gives more attention to petty squabbles...

The U.S. military has seen a marked increase in the number of suicides among personnel. For example, the suicide rate rose from 10.3 suicides per 100,000 service members in 2001 to 15.8 suicides per 100,000 service members in 2008. This 50 percent increase across all the armed services was largely due to the suicide rate in the U.S. Army, which doubled during the same time period.Because the Army contributed substantially to ground forces in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, many have speculated that the increased prevalence of suicide was related to military personnel who were...

The following statement from Army Doctrine Publication 1, The Army, is important enough to be repeated in the introduction to Field Manual 3-94, Theater Army, Corps, and Division Operations: “The land domain is the most complex of the domains, because it addresses humanity—its cultures, ethnicities, religions, and politics.” Looking across the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility highlights the critical role that Army forces—the main land power component of the joint force—continue to play in the Middle East and Central and South Asia, from Egypt to Pakistan. Recent events provide a...
