Chapter Donation Button

Chapter Donation Button

Each AUSA chapter can create its own PayPal donation page to collect contributions securely and efficiently.

This can be important for receiving donation specific to your chapter, which can then be applied to your events and programs. Linking these donation pages to your chapter's bank account means you'll have instant access to any contributions made by your members, community partners and engaged citizens.

Button appears beneath your Chapter Introduction section when completed.

Step 1: Choose a Payment Platform

You can use PayPal, Stripe, or Square to create a donation page. Each platform allows you to customize the donation experience and generate a link you’ll later embed on your chapter website.

Select one of the following platforms to create your donation page. Click to expand each guide:

  1. Go to paypal.com and sign up for a Business Account using your @ausa.org email.
  2. Enter your chapter details and EIN, then link your bank account.
  3. Once verified, go to “Tools” → “PayPal Buttons” and select “Donate Button.”
  4. Customize the button with your chapter name, logo, and donation amounts.
  5. Set a redirect URL to thank donors after payment.
  6. Copy the donation page URL — you’ll need it in Step 3.
  1. Visit stripe.com and create a business account with your @ausa.org email.
  2. Enter your chapter details and EIN, link your bank account, and complete identity verification.
  3. Go to “Payments” → “Payment Links” and create a new donation link.
  4. Choose fixed or variable donation amounts and customize branding.
  5. Copy the link to use on your chapter website.
  1. Go to squareup.com and sign up for a Business Account using your @ausa.org email.
  2. Enter chapter details and EIN, link your bank account, and verify your identity.
  3. Navigate to “Online Checkout” → “Create a Link” and choose “Collect Donations.”
  4. Customize the donation amounts and description.
  5. Copy the donation page URL for your chapter site.
When customizing your donation page, make sure to include your chapter's logo found in the ASK Toolkit. When you have options to customize colors, please use the AUSA colors found in the AUSA Branding Guide.

Step 2: Add the Donation Button to Your Chapter Website

  1. Log in to your chapter’s website with an account that has editing permissions.
  2. Go to your homepage and click “Edit.”
  3. Find the “Donation URL” field and paste the link you copied from PayPal, Stripe, or Square.
Paste your donation link in the field. If blank, no button will appear.
  4. Click “Save” to publish the button on your page.
  5. Test the button by clicking it to ensure it works properly.

Optional: To avoid confusion, you can disable the default AUSA National Donate button by checking the box labeled “Disable AUSA National Donate Button.”

By default, the National Donate Button appears on every page. To avoid confusion for your users, you can disable this on your homepage.
When you check the Disable AUSA National Donate Button checkbox, it will no longer appear in the header of your homepage.

Step 3: Create a Thank You Page

Each payment platform allows you to redirect donors to a custom page after they complete a donation. By displaying a message to your donors after they submit a donation, you can increase the odds that they will donate again.

You can link to our default Thank You Page found here https://ausa.org/chapters/thank-you or copy the text and edit it to be personalized for your chapter.

A Thank You page can quickly be created on your chapter's site to show your donors appreciation for their gift.

Use the Chapter Subpage option in your website’s Create Content Menu to build a Thank You page that:

  • Thanks donors for their contribution
  • Invites them to attend upcoming events
  • Encourages them to follow your chapter on social media
  • Promotes membership at ausa.org/join

Step 4: Report Your Donations

At the end of each fiscal year, chapter donations must be submitted through the chapter financials. Be sure to follow the guidance in Chapter 10 of the Chapter Operations Manual, available in the Leader Links section of the Chapter Leader Portal.

The Chapter Operations Manual is available in the Leader Links section of CLP.
