In May, the Association of the U.S. Army’s “Army Matters” podcast will highlight a Virginia Army National Guard soldier who uses his social media chops to tell the Army story and a former dustoff pilot who saved countless lives in Vietnam.

First up, on May 7, is a podcast featuring Sgt. 1st Class Tyler Butterworth. Three years ago, Butterworth filmed a video replicating a scene from the sitcom Parks and Recreation that included Army ration packs and locations. The video went viral, and Butterworth is now a social media superstar with millions of followers. He uses his content to show the funny side of Army life and help with recruiting.

During the podcast, Butterworth talks about why his videos are so effective and shares his comedy influences.

Next up is an episode featuring retired Col. Otis Evans, a medevac helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. In 1968, Evans landed in Vietnam and immediately started piloting 20-hour flights as a member of a dustoff crew. It took him a while to win the respect of his fellow pilots, but one heroic mission captured their attention, and during his time in Vietnam he saved the lives of countless soldiers.

On the podcast, Evans discusses his service during the war, how that experience led to an incredible 27-year Army career and his thoughts on being celebrated at this year’s National Memorial Day Concert in Washington, D.C.

The episode is available on May 21.
