Gen. Fred Franks, USA Ret., commanded VII Corps in Desert Shield/Storm and then U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) from 1991 to 1994. Following active Army retirement, he wrote a book, Into the Storm: A Study in Command, with Tom Clancy and Tony Koltz. He has been the 1966 Chair in the William E. Simon Center for the Professional Military Ethic at West Point since 1999; chaired the Amputee Advisory Board from 2003 and then became a member of the Defense Health Board; and is the board chairman of the VII Corps Desert Storm Veterans Association.
