Helping the Army transform for the future
On the heels of commemorating 250 years of service to the Nation, the U.S. Army is transforming for the future as global threats continue to evolve and proliferate.
A global leader in defense solutions, Boeing is enabling that transformation and delivering critical, advanced capabilities to ensure multi-domain dominance for Soldiers.
Developing and Integrating Future Technology
Investments in leading-edge technologies, tools, facilities and people are bringing decisive and disruptive capabilities to bear for the Army.
The AH-64 Apache remains an unparalleled asset in modern warfare, adeptly countering evolving threats while incorporating emerging technologies. To increase the combat-proven Apache’s lethality, survivability and ability to collaborate and connect with unmanned and autonomous systems, we’re demonstrating platform’s ability to integrate the newest capabilities, like Launched Effects. This will help connect the Army’s family of systems and strengthens the Apache’s role as a force multiplier on the battlefield.

The Chinook stands alone as the most accomplished heavy-lift helicopter in the world and will fly into 2060 and beyond. The CH-47F Block II configuration currently in production delivers capability, efficiency and commonality, which is critical in contested logistics environments. The Block II design not only provides capability increases today, but it enables additional future technology insertions, including autonomous flight and ground operations, fuel efficient engines and launched effects.
To help Soldiers neutralize enemy capabilities and defend against proliferating air and missile threats, Boeing continues to build upon a proven portfolio of integrated offensive and defensive fires solutions. The increasingly sophisticated, lifesaving Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) seekers enable the world’s most advanced interceptor to identify, track and intercept everything from hostile aircraft to missiles to protect service members and critical infrastructure. To address a capability gap against low-flying, mid-range threats like cruise missiles and militarized drones, Boeing is developing a cost-effective, deep-magazine offering for the Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 Second Interceptor competition. To give the Army flexible, long range precision fires capabilities on the battlefield, Boeing and Saab have enhanced their innovative Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) system to eliminate threats at direct and indirect angles.

Beyond active production lines, Boeing focuses on sophisticated modeling and simulation via Boeing’s Virtual Warfare Centers to support training and scenario planning for better real-world decision-making. Our innovative Phantom Works division tackles the toughest challenges through research, development, and prototyping.
Creating Open Systems to Improve Flexibility
Open systems are key to remaining responsive and maintaining overmatch with potential adversaries. They pave the way for additional capability, allowing the Army to deploy future technology quickly and affordably.
The latest AH-64E Apache Version 6.5 (v6.5) provides a common software configuration for the Army. Its Open Systems Interface (OSI) is a step towards Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) implementation to rapidly integrate the latest capabilities – such as Launched Effects, counter-Unmanned Aircraft System solutions, and Long-Range Precision Munitions – and improve system lethality. Combined with further upgrades to reduce pilot workload and maximize the Apache’s impact, MOSA will help ensure its continued battlefield dominance for decades to come.

That approach applies to other Army aircraft. On the CH-47F Block II Chinook, we designed a modular equipment shelf to allow easier integration of new technologies without requiring an aircraft redesign. We’re continuing to expand MOSA on Chinook for rapid third-party hardware/software integration to enhance operational flexibility and capability.
We also built a modular approach into the IFPC Increment 2 Second Interceptor for rapidly upgradable air defense that delivers greater speed to target, range and maneuverability to better protect fixed and forward operating bases against emergent aerial threats.
Through investments in MOSA and collaboration across the Army and industry, we’ll create flexibility for customers to quickly upgrade and enhance capabilities to stay ahead of evolving threats.
Prioritizing Readiness, Today and Tomorrow
As we develop capabilities critical to the future fight, we’re working closely with the Army to maintain mission readiness and manage costs in production and sustainment.
Recent advancements in the Chinook fleet improve the aircraft's effectiveness while ensuring readiness. The CH-47F Block II program lowers the cost per flight hour and mitigates obsolescence issues. That keeps the industrial base healthy and maintains access to a global supply chain of available parts. Our regional Field Service Representatives help identify significant cost savings – $15.5 million in 2024 alone – by optimizing maintenance and support processes.
Boeing tailors maintenance and comprehensive support options to meet the unique challenges faced by military operations. A focus on safety and sustainability has led to the implementation of advanced analytics and data-driven supply chain processes, ensuring critical parts and equipment are available when needed and reducing downtime and costs.
We also leverage specialized training services to equip Army personnel for advanced systems and platforms. Our simulation technologies save time and money by providing realistic training environments. The combination of simulation technology with instructor-led training improves preparation for the demands of modern warfare.
Other initiatives like the Next Generation Automatic Testing System increase the longevity and reliability of Army equipment with significant cost savings. Boeing’s logistical support, maintenance and training services all strengthen operational capabilities and readiness so that soldiers are well-prepared to confront evolving global threats in an increasingly complex landscape.
As Boeing continues its longstanding partnership with the U.S. Army, we remain committed to delivering affordable, innovative solutions that enhance operational readiness. Together, we celebrate the Army's rich history and help an increasingly resilient force tackle the challenges of the future
