Harmattan AI

Harmattan AI

Harmattan AI Logo

Harmattan AI is a defense technology company developing vertically integrated autonomous systems for military applications. Founded in 2024, the company operates across several areas of contemporary defense technology, including layered air defense, autonomous uncrewed aerial systems for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and strike missions, electronic warfare capabilities, and command and control platforms. Its activities reflect broader shifts in modern warfare toward autonomy, software driven systems, and scalable production.

Harmattan AI develops integrated systems that combine robotic platforms, artificial intelligence, and mission-level software. Rather than delivering individual components, the company designs complete systems intended to operate within broader military architectures, supporting mission planning, execution, coordination, and training. Since its founding, Harmattan AI has rapidly become one of the fastest-growing players in the sector, delivering thousands of systems each month.

Core Areas of Development

Harmattan AI develops layered air defense systems designed to counter uncrewed aerial threats. These systems integrate detection, tracking, decision logic, and interception within a unified architecture, addressing the growing requirement to protect military installations and critical infrastructure from proliferated aerial systems.

Alongside this, the company produces autonomous uncrewed aerial systems covering intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike applications. These platforms are designed to operate collaboratively, using onboard autonomy to support coordinated system behavior across different operating environments.

Harmattan AI’s portfolio also includes advanced sensing payloads for uncrewed systems, including synthetic aperture radar. These payloads support situational awareness across a range of operating conditions.

At the software level, Harmattan AI develops command and control (C2) platforms that enable planning, supervision, and adaptation of missions involving multiple autonomous assets. These platforms support varying levels of autonomy and human oversight, allowing operators to adjust control models based on mission requirements and operational risk.

Autonomy and Mission Architecture

A defining feature of Harmattan AI’s approach is its focus on mission-level autonomy implemented across platforms, sensors, and software rather than as isolated automated functions. The company emphasizes onboard processing and edge autonomy, enabling systems to analyze data locally and operate effectively when communications are constrained.

Production and Scaling

From its inception, Harmattan AI has emphasized production scalability. Its systems are designed for volume manufacturing, reflecting a shift in defense procurement toward attritable and software centric capabilities. The company reports delivering systems at industrial scale, with production volumes measured in the thousands of units per month.

This production model aligns with emerging military requirements for rapidly deployable and replaceable systems, particularly in the context of distributed operations. Modular architectures and standardized components enable faster assembly, maintenance, and adaptation to evolving operational needs.

Customers, Programs, and Funding

Harmattan AI primarily engages with government defense organizations and armed forces. Its technologies have been deployed with multiple NATO partners.

The company has been awarded multiple Programs of Record by the French and United Kingdom Ministries of Defence for elements of its autonomous systems portfolio. These programs indicate a transition from development and experimentation toward formal procurement and long term capability integration within national defense frameworks.

In support of its expansion, Harmattan AI closed a $200 million Series B funding round, led by Dassault Aviation. The funding supports continued system development, production scaling, and international growth in response to increasing demand for autonomous defense capabilities.

Organization and Global Presence

Harmattan AI employs more than 170 people. The workforce is predominantly composed of engineers working across hardware development, systems engineering, software, artificial intelligence, alongside personnel with operational backgrounds, including military veterans. This mix reflects an emphasis on aligning technical development with operational requirements.

The company maintains operating offices in the United States, France, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates, supporting engagement with government customers, industrial partners, and operational stakeholders across allied defense markets.

Position Within the Defense Technology Landscape

Within the broader defense technology landscape, Harmattan AI represents a category of companies focused on software defined and autonomy enabled systems. The company develops both robotic platforms and the artificial intelligence and mission systems that control and coordinate their operation, reflecting a vertically integrated approach to capability development.

As demand for autonomous and scalable defense systems continues to grow, Harmattan AI is expanding its activities in response to interest from allied governments and defense organizations. Its trajectory illustrates the accelerating pace at which new defense technology firms are moving from concept development to operational deployment.
