Homeland Security Expands AUSA 2017 Exhibit

The Department of Homeland Security is returning to the Association of the U.S. Army’s Annual Meeting and Exposition in October with plans for a large pavilion in Hall A of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., that will showcase the agency’s many missions.

The 2017 exhibit space will be about one-third larger than in 2016, and the agency also plans to have demonstrations and so-called tech talks during the three-day conference. DHS human-capital officers will also be on hand to talk about job opportunities at the agency.

‘Building Readiness’ Is Theme for AUSA 2017

With a nod to the past and a focus on the future, the theme of the Association of the U.S. Army’s 2017 Annual Meeting and Exposition will be “Building Readiness: America’s Army from the Great War to Multi-Domain Battle.”

The meeting, which traditionally draws more than 26,000 people, will be Oct. 9–11 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The Army Ten-Miler, which AUSA has co-sponsored for 33 years, will be Oct. 8.

The Association of the U.S. Army’s Annual Meeting and Exposition made a top 100 list of Washington, D.C.’s, most impactful events of 2016.

BizBash, which bills itself as North America’s top source of “ideas, news, and resources for event and meeting professionals,” slotted AUSA’s annual meeting in the No. 3 position in its trade shows and conventions category, behind only the NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo and the Washington Auto Show.

An app for emergency communications, an upgraded helicopter engine and enhanced night vision goggles were among the technologies on display at the Association of the U.S. Army’s Annual Meeting and Exposition.

Qnexis Inc., a Reston, Va.-based communications company, showcased an emergency communications app that provides mass notifications to mobile phones.

Company president and CEO Kurt Nguyen  said the mobile app is useful for routine communications between administrators and employees, providing company-wide or site-specific communications.

Sullivan Receives Marshall Award at AUSA 2016

The 2016 Annual Meeting and Exposition of the Association of the U.S. Army concluded Oct. 5 with retired Army Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan accepting the association’s highest award.

The former AUSA president and CEO and former Army chief of staff received the General George Catlett Marshall Medal for a lifetime of selfless service to the U.S. Army and the nation.

The award is presented annually by AUSA’s Council of Trustees. Council Chairman Nicholas D. Chabraja said he was “especially proud to honor one of our own,” and called Sullivan “one of the Army’s most revered generals.”

Civilian Workers Honored at Luncheon

The civilian workers of the Department of the Army were lauded at a luncheon on the third and final day of the Association of the U.S. Army’s 2016 Annual Meeting and Exposition.

“AUSA recognizes Army civilians are an integral part of the Army team, ensuring the readiness and well-being of soldiers and their families,” said John B. Nerger of the AUSA Advisory Board of Directors. “Army civilians provide unmatched expertise, stability and continuity to our force, qualities we depend upon for the Army to succeed at any mission it’s given.”
