E-9 Breakfast Meeting

SGM (R) Mark Reilly, Chapter VP NCO/Soldier Programs coordinated the monthly E9 Breakfast at the Vienna Inn, (120 Maple Ave. Vienna, VA 22180) on Saturday January 6th at 9:00 a.m. Approximately, 14 Senior NCOs and family members participated in this event across the services. This is a monthly event where the senior NCOs break bread, reconnecting with friends, network and discuss issues affecting Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. This event is also a membership event where the benefits of being an AUSA member are discussed. George Washington Chapter AUSA funded the coffee. The next event will be conducted on February 3rd.  2024.

SGM (R) Mark Reilly, Chapter VP NCO/Soldier Programs, conducted the monthly E9 Breakfast at the Vienna Inn,The Breakfast was held at the Vienna Inn (120 Maple Ave. Vienna, VA 22180) on Saturday February 3rd at 9:00 a.m. Approximately, 11 senior NCO's participated in this event across the services. 
This is a monthly event where the senior NCOs break bread, reconnecting with friends, network and discuss issues affecting Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines, and included The Washington Tattoo, a community partner of the George Washington Chapter.  This event is also a membership event where the benefits of being an AUSA member are discussed. Thanks to the George Washington Chapter AUSA for the coffee.

February E9 Breakfast

18-19 February 2024
JBM-HH Capital Classic

Basketball teams from branches and installations around the country gathered on the joint base to compete in the 27th Annual Capital Classic over President’s Day weekend.

Seventeen men’s teams and three women’s teams competed for the title, traveling from as far as Fort Carson, Colorado to participate. The largest basketball tournament in the DOD, the Capital Classic features 3-point shootouts, half-time contests, music and food. GWC donated $500 to support this event.

Represented the GWC at The Center for Leadership at the Association of the United States Army - AUSA and Army ROTC (Official Page) hosted the Senior Leader Development Conference for approximately 140 ROTC Cadets from programs in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia.

The inspirational panelists included:
- Lieutenant General (Retired) Tom James
- Lieutenant General (Retired) Mary A. Legere
- Lieutenant General Douglas Stitt
- Major General James Smith
- Major General Trevor Bredenkamp
- Command Sergeant Major Veronica Knapp
- Command Sergeant Major Bryan Otero

The GWC donated $1000 to support the event catering, coffee, and water for the participants.

West Point Ethics and Leadership Conference

Represented the GWC as a sponsor/donor for the West Point Society of DC Seventeenth Annual West Point Leadership & Ethics Conference (WPLEC) for the National Capital Region held at George Mason University, Arlington Campus, Van Metre Hall. The Keynote Speakers for the day were CPT(R) Flo Groberg, Medal of Honor Recipient, CPT Simone Askew, Policy Advisor, National Security Council, and Faculty Keynote Speaker was Dr. Frederick Lough, MD Director, DoD Medical Ethics Center and Griffith Institute for Ethics, Leadership, and Professionalism. Well over 150 young leaders and Cadre were attending the various teambuilding sessions and leadership counseling sessions. Reston National Golf Course is certified as a Cooperative Sanctuary by Audubon International.

The GWC AUSA Golf Tournament is an annual event to support the Chapter's Soldier, Soldier Family, and Scholarship Programs.

The GWC continues its initiative to engage and support local high schools and undergraduates in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as well as Business and Finance curriculums.

In 2024, the chapter will award scholarships amounting to $35,000 to Soldiers, ROTC cadets and family members. 

The support provided by our sponsors and community partners was instrumental in the success of this scholarship program.​​​​​

The tournament will be an outstanding offsite marketing and networking opportunity associated with the 2024 AUSA Annual Meeting. 

In 2023, $29,000 was raised to support the GWC Educational Scholarship Fund. Thank you to the Sponsors and Players!
