AUSA Webinar Continues Army Discussion on Race

Four prominent retired Army leaders will be featured on a June 26 Association of the U.S. Army webinar on racial issues and diversity in the force.

This will be the second part of a discussion that began June 17 with a presentation, also hosted by AUSA, by Army Undersecretary James McPherson and Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Joseph Martin.

The event begins at noon Eastern and will last about one hour.

The June 26 guests on The AUSA Noon Report will be Gen. Dennis Via, Gen. Vincent Brooks, Lt. Gen. Nadja West and Command Sgt. Maj. James Sims. 

Via retired from the Army in 2016 after 36 years of service. In his final assignment, he served as the 18th commander of Army Materiel Command. 

Brooks retired in 2019 after 45 years of service. In his final assignment, Brooks commanded United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea.

West was the 44th Army surgeon general, retiring in 2019 after 37 years of service.

Sims served 35 years in the Army, with a final assignment as Army Materiel Command’s command sergeant major, serving at the same time as Via. He joined the Army in 1983 as an automated parts specialist and had nine military occupational specialties by his retirement in 2018.
